Obsessions Bar and Grill, 564 Chili Ave.(Formerly Oak Tree Lounge, completely renovated.) 576-5917

Owners: Joan and Ricardo Ortiz.

Hours: 11:30 AM- 12 AM.

Location: Map

Comments:You won’t find many comments here except “Yum” as we had lunch there recently for our visit.  John had chicken curry and I had brown stew chicken. For $5, each plate also came with a mound of rice and a salad, or other choices. The chicken was so tender and savory. Menu is Jamaican and American. Chef Ric also works part-time at Lucano’s on East Ave. The couple formerly owned a bar on Lyell for six years. There is a full bar, and last night Obsessions featured open mike. They are also available for groups, such as birthday parties. Joan is originally from Sawyer St., where she met Ric.

The Obsessions occupies the whole first floor of this building.  The Restaurant and dance floor take up the east 2/3 of the area and the bar is on the west side divided by a wall.

The restaurant and dance floor are are huge.  We came in at around 1:30 and the place was mostly empty.  Two or three other customers came in while we ate.

Most times we were there for lunch the bar was empty.  It does most of its business from 10:00pm to midnight.

Click on the menu or pictures to enlarge.  Above Mark speaks with Joan Ortiz who he knows from work.

Ricardo Ortiz cooked and served our meals. They were outstanding. After we finished eating we went next door to interview Cutaia's Meat Market. While we were there Ricardo came over to buy meat for his next customers. It is very convenient having one of the best meat markets in Rochester next door if you are running a restaurant!

Food was so good.  Well worth trying.

John and I went for dinner one evening last week.  I had ribs with a mix of sauteed fresh vegetables as a side.  The vegetables had just a hint of heat - wonderful!

John and I met Anthony D'Alessandro for lunch and we all had the chicken curry, with sides of rice and red beans and a salad.  The chicken curry was fantastic, and the beans and rice offered some ingredients not usually found at other places that added extra flavor.  We found the service exceptional, in spite of the crew of three preparing for a catering job later in the afternoon for a party of 250 at a downtown retirement party.

I saw owner Joan Ortiz the day after the party they catered for 250 people.  She said it went very well, and people said they liked everything that was served, almost Obsessions entire Jamaican menu.  Some even asked for her card so they could use them in the future.  A good recommendation!
