Introductions
Latest Development on Superintendent’s Selection
Interim Superintendent will be Dan Lowengard; Linda Cimusz will be Chief of Staff.
Review Developments in Aquino Report Reaction: Report Meetings, Mayor's Community Input Sessions,
Group Takeaways:
Superintendent Session
Not a job for someone who has never been a Superintendent before.
Doing a national search; it was noted that, in Texas, Superintendent makes $300,000; it will be hard to compete with Superintendent salaries across the country; RCSD is approximately $250,000.
Meetings have not had high attendance.
Several meetings are recorded and can be watched on the Internet
Aquino Report

Busing not addressed in Aquino Report nor by School Board; State issue
Mayor invited to tonight’s meeting; hoping her Albany contacts might help move the busing issue forward
School 3, 10, 16, 19, 29, 44 – Updates
School #29
On plan for school revitalization in 2019 (first round of Phase 3)
To Freddie Thomas for a year in June of 2020
Playground rehabilitation will be put on hold
Will keep half-court basketball court
Heating and AC units will be upgraded
Little Free Library in neighborhood across the street needs re-lamination on its door
Have many books left and supply can be replenished
School #44
Last we have heard, renovation would be in Phase 3 or 4. There hasn’t been new talk about closing the school. We don’t know if the RCSD shortfall might have an impact on that status.
Principal, Rodney Moore, positive about his new position; formerly principal of School #3
School #16
In February, hoping school will participate in 19th Ward’s Candlelight Dinners
Wilson Commencement – Update
None.
OACES, CFC YouthBuild – Updates
YouthBuild
Open House 12/13 at 121 Lincoln Ave was a great success; wide variety of attendees: neighbors, teachers, CFC staff, interested candidates, employers
Recruiting for next cohort to begin in mid-January.
John B. suggested speaking at School #44 parent meeting as school is located a block away from YB; Eleanor will also bring fliers to School #29
Though CFC YouthBuild starting in partnership with OACES, it currently operates independently from them. An agreement has been reached with REOC to provide high school equivalency resources.
YB Mentors work with students from beginning of program; part of their job is to help them get their driver’s licenses a common barrier to employment.
