This group is intended for use as a forum for discussing Education topics of interest to our SW Rochester community and for organizing information on our public schools, the RCSD and other education topics.
No further information on the Superintendent leaving the District.
Lee noted that their tutors are dealing with 4th & 5th graders with significantly low reading levels; can’t identify basic words. There are 8 tutors at School #10 at this time; having some success with students; tutors have a good relationship with students. Lee retiring from the Tutoring Team; will leave it to the Engineering group as to whether or not it goes forward.
Local Busing - ½ Mile Busing
Still an important issue. City was broken up and businesses disrupted which resulted in lack of support for inner city schools, increase in poverty, loss of thriving local businesses, etc. We should reverse that.
Demond Meeks has shown strong support for ½ Mile Busing; we need to remind State Senators and Assemblymembers to support it
Next Coalition for Public Education (CPE) meeting is this Friday, March 29th from 4-5
East High School Model
Attend School Board Meeting tomorrow evening:
Call in the morning to sign up to speak
Support keeping East as it is
Start two more High Schools on the same model
Implementing RASE Education CART; Spend more on Education, Less on Incarceration
John B. noted that RASE needs to be at the forefront pushing for quality education. Eleanor noted that Candace Lucas has been sending updates on RASE that are distributed via the SWCC announcements..

SEAC Mobile Tool Shed will be parked in the Lightfoot now through the end of the year.Wed 3-6; now till September
Summer of Opportunity Program (SOOP); coming to end of program entry; Deadline 3/31; 14-20
Hiring Aquatics Staff (lifefuards, pool attendant, etc.) - Deadline 4/15
Very good communication with RPD around KIA theft and the resulting
4/8 - all R-Centers will be open; different eclipse activities; glasses available at all the R-Centers; will also have one telescope
