SW History Matters

The objective of this group is to give us all a chance to share information about our SW Rochester past so that we can put the present in perspective.  Besides it being interesting and fun this cooperative participation can help us plan for the future.

19th Ward Oral/Video History Project

South West History Matters because it gives those that live here & others interested in the area information about how the area developed, what there was, what there is, & what's coming. Also, adding to Rochester's history and future vision. In this context the 19th Ward's History & Archive Committee is embarking on a series of Oral/Video documentaries.  The series will include historical information by the people who have lived in the 19th Ward & and business' & business owners who have been apart of the community in the present, past & still living & working here.  Not to stop with what was but also to include the revitalization of the area through new comer's who have moved here & start or enhance business' that make the 19th Ward a viable & exciting place to live & work.

The first Oral/Video history series has begun with Eddie DiPonzio the barber who has had & still has his shop on Thurston Road for the past 54 years. Eddie lets us see & hear about his life, his barbering & the "wonderful people" in the area that he has known for years. See his story on YouTube Eddie DiPonzio .
