Thank you to all who came out on a cold, snowy and blustery Rochester evening to get updates on the Bull's Head Revitalization efforts to date, and next steps as we wait for news on the proposal submitted last March.

The Powerpoint presentation will be posted later today, along with some photos of the historic neighborhood(s) around Bull's Head.

What started it all? The Bull's Head Tavern, 1827 - 1908, seems to be the source for the name (photo provided by John Curran):

We should hear about the NYS Brownfield Opportunity Area grant sometime within the next week (by 6/4/2013).  Meanwhile, the city demolished the narrow building at 900 W. Main and the adjacent building at 904 W. Main. As that was completed, the building at 906-910 (Critic's Restaurant) was determined to be unstable and it is now also being demolished.

That sounds completely outrageous.  So now we have lost three of those buildings, and what will they find when they take Critics down. Although many people never went there. Critics was a long standing and viable business in the neighborhood.  For many people it was the only reason to go the Bulls Head. Now they have torn it down!

It may be sad to see Critics goe, but I am excited about plans for new mixed use residential and commercial improvements that may be in the works for this area.  Old unstable buildings have to go, of course, and this area is an important one for improvement.  Hopefully we will soon see some great new projects coming in.  Seems overall very positive to me.

Many SW residents have never set foot in Critics. But there are many others who stopped in every day.  For many it was big part of their daily life.  There were also two families who lost their apartments in this mishap. This was a huge error on the part of the City.
