Tell us about yourself:
Peter and I have been involved for years in work connected with Latin America, and especially right now the Rochester Committee on Latin America (ROCLA)). We're members of the Band of Rebels (working against corporate greed and economic inequality to create a more just future for our grandchildren) and active in the Downtown United Presbyterian Church. Peter wrote a book, "Cancer in the Body Politic" and promotes a Single Payer system of health care. Gail works with several groups, including the Human Rights Day Committee, and the Greater Rochester Coalition for Immigration Justice, and FR=EE Social Justice. We wish the SouthWest Market could continue all year but are glad we can pick up delicious bread from Bread for All every week at Jackie Farrell's house!
Welcome to Location19. Judging by all the good causes you and Peter are involved in I'm sure you will find a few things on this site that you can participate in.
Now that you are a member of Location19, when you sign-in, you can post to the Discussion Forum, Events calendar and Blog section and you can join any of the various groups to participate in the discussions there. Check out A Brief Overview on Location19 Structure to get familiar with what's where. In the tabs, Be sure to check out the "All Groups - Icons" sub-tab. We are currently up to 66 groups.
To join a group such as SW Education Forum, click on the group, then in the upper right of the group page just under the banner picture, next to your name click on +Join SW Education Forum and you are a member! Being a group member lets you post to the group and also permits you to receive email notifications from that group about events and other info that may not be posted on Location19 itself. Since you like the Westside Farmers Market be sure to check out Friends of the WFM and also the new group The Seedfolk Store which Eleanor Coleman just started. If you stop by The Seedfolk Store at at 540 West Main, I'm sure you will fall in love with the place.
Be sure to notice the SW Merchants box on the upper right above Groups. The buttons can get you to index pages for local restaurants, grocery stores and hard goods stores. The lists are not complete and people are welcome to add additional reviews as they find other places. Such reviews should be added as discussions in the Our Neighborhood Merchants group and I'll add a link to the corresponding index page.
There is a ton of information you can search for and read through on Location19. Be sure you make use of the search options. Also check out the Block Clubs tab. In it is Block Clubs-4-22-2013.doc list which shows clubs we know about in the area.
It' a good idea to subscribe to the Daily Email Digest so you receive an update of new activity on the site even if you don't check Location19 every day. You can also find a list of new information posted by looking at the Latest Activity column on the Main page.
I look forward to your participation. If you have any questions don't hesitate to call Marian or me at 328-4271.
