Just in case you missed the calendar posting, there is a VERY important public meeting coming up very soon (Tuesday). The City will be holding a meeting to provide the latest information on two aspects of the new Brooks Landing Development:
- The new development of an 11-story student apartment building with restaurant immediately to the north of the Staybridge hotel, and a 1-story credit unit building on the SE corner of Brooks and Genesee.
- Improvements to the portion of Genesee Valley Park on the west bank between Elmwood and Brooks.
These projects have a number of major impacts on the southern 19th Ward and PLEX, and we need to have a community dialog on these impacts ASAP before Zoning Board votes on variances for this development on the 12th and the 15th. Please spread the word about this meeting to anyone and everyone who has an interest in this project and its impacts.
The 19th WCA does not yet have positions on these projects. The two projects (the commercial project and the park project) will have a number of positive impacts on our neighborhood, but there are also a number of impacts that could be negative. We need to come to some sort of consensus as to what our neighborhood's position will be. There is a wide range of opinions, so we will not be able to come up with one position that satisfies everyone, but we should do our best to identify what the most common positions are.
