19th Ward Community Association
Housing Committee
Meeting Notes
February 15, 2012
The Meeting opened at 11:00am.
Present: John Boutet, Marian Boutet, Peter Evans, Lee Krist, Tony Orlati, June Rose, Donna Sarnacki, Jeff West
Jeff West, code inspection supervisor, was at the meeting. Our method for monitoring and reporting totes was reviewed along with our hopes for remediation. We should call Suburban Disposal to find out what their pickup days are for addresses that have their blue totes.
Peter explained our process for recording code violations regarding houses and showed an example with 319 Chili front lawn parking. Other front yard parking violations were reviewed with Jeff and the addresses of houses with violations were given him for houses that had been contacted with a letter from the Housing Committee.
We also discussed 317 West Ave which is in very bad shape and requested Jeff look at it. Jeff will check into the property. Jeff mentioned the city is not going after missing lattice and is concentrating on major health related issues. Lee asked if he could get us an update to what is not being enforced now.
We discussed having an inspector come to the committee meetings once a month or so. Jeff recommended that Bruce Wilder from the NSC should be contacted first about attending meetings. Jeff can come if needed but Bruce is most familiar with this area.
Problems with property manager were discussed. Very few do a good job. Some bill for repairs not done and may report apartments not rented to the property owner when there are really tenants from whom they are collecting rent.

John will make a sign for the Housing Committee in office book sale display. John mentioned the possibility of using a “Contribute” button on Location19 or 19WCA website to raise funds.
John will follow up with DeWain to verify he sent letter to the City the day following the last Delegates Council. The objective of the letter to get the City to secure the roof of 96 Chili to prevent further damage while availability of rehab funds for the property is determined.
Marian will get a list of foreclosed properties in the 19th Ward. Marian will meet with June, Lee and Donna Feb. 23rd at 11am in 19WCA office for computer training aimed using a spreadsheet and mail merge to simplify keeping records and addressing letters to owners and tenants regarding code violations.
John Burch was not able to squeeze a last minute Housing Committee article into the February Update 19. We asked to have it in the March issue and Jackie will post it in the Location19 19WCA group.
Meeting adjourned at 1:30 PM
