19th Ward Community Association
Housing Committee
Meeting Notes
February 8, 2012

The Meeting convened at 11:10am.

Present: John Boutet, Marian Boutet, Peter Evans, Lee Krist, Toni Orlati,

Lee talked to the Child Care Council and they will send information on the requirements for opening a day-care such as proposed by tenants at 128 Chili.

The updated revision 4 house drawing was reviewed and accepted.

Totes are being addressed in cooperation with Code Enforcement Officer Bruce Wilder, Tom D’Agostino and Philip Brown. Bruce and Philip are at the NSC office and Tom is down town. Philip Brown addresses totes left on the tree lawns. The arrangement is that the Tote Team will address one area per month and generate a list of violations each week. They deliver a copy of the list in to the NSC office each Monday and the inspectors check those properties on Tuesday. If the inspector can verify the problem, a warning letter is sent to the resident. If the violation persists a second warning letter is sent the following week. After the third letter comes a fine.

With regard to other housing code violations the housing committee has been concentrating on Chili Avenue as a pilot project and the worst looking houses are at 70, 82 and 96 Chili. No. 70 is on the City’s demolition list, although ownership of the property is unclear. The property at 82 Chili is being worked on. There is no progress on 96.

John will check with DeWain to see if a letter from the 19WCA has been sent to the City regarding securing the roof of 96 Chili to prevent further damage while availability of rehab funds for the property is determined.

Letters were addressed to the owners or current residents of 32 of the worse properties on Chili Avenue and two on Wellington Avenue. Each letter included indications of what the violations exist at the properties. Also included in the mailing was the list “Resources for Home Rehabilitation and Repair: SW Quadrant” provided by Joan Roby-Davison.

John Burch was not able to squeeze a last minute Housing Committee article into the February Update 19. We will ask to have it in the March issue and post it on Location19

Jeff West, code inspection supervisor, is coming to the Feb. 15th 11 to noon meeting.

Meeting adjourned at 1:05 PM
