19th Ward Community Association
Housing Committee
Day Meeting Notes for Posting
May 2, 2012
Final

The Meeting convened at: 11:05am

Present: John B, Lee K, Toni O, June R, Donna S, Henrene B

The group discussed the Carlos Carballada letter that was received in response to our letter to Mayor Richards. The impression Carlos has is we are trying to raise $500k to rehab 96 Chili. We want to find out where that misconception came from. We will arrange to have 2 or 3 people go in to talk Carlos Carballada. House at 70 Chili on demolition list according to David but we heard there is going to to be an auction. Peter is trying to find out if there is going to be a viewing. There are $27K of tax leans on 70 chili

82 Chili is having a lot of good work done on it. We should send a thank-you to people working on it.

226 Chili went for 55K.

We will try to meet with Joan Roby-Davison before Carl Carballada.

Toni reported that the newly refined City procedure for handling tote violations is:

  •   1st warning letter Week 1
  •   2nd warning letter Week 2
  •   1st ticket Week 3
  •   2nd Ticket Week 4
  •   Nuisance letter Week 5 (letter states that the property is a nuisance to neighborhood )
  •   If they don't comply they go to court. ~3weeks after nuisance letter.

It takes 3 weeks for ~2 districts then we do main arteries, therefore main arteries get done every 4th week

So far the tote group has done:

  •   District 23x3 weeks, In parallel did Chili, Thurston, Arnett ,Westfield, Brooks
  •   District 18x3 weeks, In parallel did Chili, Thurston, Arnett ,Westfield, Brooks
  •   Had to repeat 18x3 because NSC lost info. In parallel did Chili, Thurston, Arnett, Westfield, Brooks
  •   We then switched to doing Arteries one week
  •   then Districts 9 and 8 for 3 weeks - then arteries for one week

Plans for the coming months are:

  •   Districts 17, 19 for 3 weeks - arteries one week
  •   Districts 16, 15, 7 for 3 weeks - arteries one week.
  •   Districts 11, 12, 13 for 3 weeks - arteries one week
  •   Districts 5, 21, 6 for 3 weeks - arteries one week
  •   Districts 14, 4 for 3 weeks - arteries one week
  •   Districts 22, 3 for 3 weeks - arteries one week
  •   Districts 10, 2 for 3 weeks - arteries one week
  •   Districts 1 and 20 for 3 weeks - arteries one week

Need someone from each district to do followup after the tote group is finished. Follow-up would involve check marks on addresses identified by group in the first 3 weeks , doing follow up every two weeks any day between 2day after pick-up and 2 days before pickup. Please contact Jackie at the office to volunteer to do followup.

Meeting adjourned at: 12:20pm
