19th Ward Community Association
Housing Committee
General Meeting Notes
November 29, 2012
final
The Meeting convened at 7:00pm.
Present: John B, Marian B, Toni O, Donna S
November 7 and 10 meeting minutes were passed out for approval. No changes were made.
Marian passed out a draft Housing Committee History writeup for the incoming 19WCA officers. The plan is to send the Housing Committee History writeup to the new and old members of the Executive Committee before the next Executive Committee meeting which will have new and old 19WCA officers present. At that meeting Toni and June will present their plans for systematically flagging the most egregious housing code violations to the NSC office. The Committee History draft was reviewed and changes agreed on. The date of the meeting is being rescheduled because it conflict with School Board Hearing.
Joan Roby-Davison alerted Marian and John at the Zoning Board hearing this morning of Nov. 29th of free home repair work offered by Flower City Work Camp for needy residents. Unfortunately candidate names have to be in by Monday December 3rd. Work is done during spring recess by 500 youth working under 200 adult supervisors. Toni thinks she knows one candidate. We talked about perhaps posting something on Location19. (After reflecting on it we did not post. There just is not time enough to check out candidates to see if they meet requirements and to submit their names Monday.) A copy of the letter Joan gave us on the program is attached. We should make sure to try to make use of this program next year and submit names early in November.
Donna has asked John DeMott to come in and discuss what street managers do. He has agreed to do that.
Toni has everything she needs from Gary Kirkmire to put the final touches to the code violation letter that she and June will start using in mid January to warn residents with housing code violations.
Marian is investigating getting more buildings listed as being in preservation areas. She has started a preservation group on Location19.
Meeting adjourned at 8:00 pm.
