Overflowing totes left in plain sight, totes and bulk trash put out days before pick-up.  Sound familiar? It should be a less familiar sight now than it was a year ago.

The City’s code states that
“refuse shall be placed for collection between the sidewalk and the curb or alongside the roadway in front of the premises at which the refuse originated, no earlier than the night before the scheduled refuse collection day. All containers shall be removed from the area between the sidewalk and the curb or alongside the roadway within 24 hours after collection and returned to their storage area at the rear or side yard of the premises.”

Toni and June have been monitoring the neighborhood and reporting violations to the NSC office.  Upon receiving a complaint, the City sends two warning letters to violators followed by tickets.  The second ticket doubles the fine. Here are the results of their efforts for 2012 as of December 1:

  • 1st  warning letters sent  - 1,101
  • 2nd warning  letters sent - 532
  • 1st ticket - 269
  • 2nd  ticket - 182
