The 19th Ward Community Association Schools Committee

Attendees: John Boutet, Dan Ross, Jay Ross, John Laing, Sarah Yaworski,

July minutes Approved

what do we want for our children discussion.

Dan had written a first draft of our position paper. We decided to have it included in the next Update 19 which has a deadline of August 16. Dan will try to make this deadline and I was to see about extending it.

School 16 schedule and use of space

No news on the schedule but there are visible signs of work.

John B has met with Eric Rose of the city to discuss the possibility of city rec taking responsibility for the space for before and after school care. It turns out that the Flint Street city rec will be undergoing renovation in Sept 2018 which may be a fit. He’s hoping to talk with Kevin Fitzpatrick of the YMCA soon.

School 44 status

School 44 will remain open. Nothing will change until the Superintendent and her staff complete the space study.

School 10 will move to Marshall for swing space.

New Business

Ricky Fowler,Acting Executive Director of the Office of Parent Engagement for the district will hold an orientation session for volunteers on August 30 at 6 pm at the association office. If you know of people who would like to volunteer invite them.

Beth Mascitti-Miller gave a presentation to the school board on the plans to convert school 17 to a neighborhood school. I have requested a copy as there is information that will be useful for implementation of our position paper.

Next Meeting

Wednesday September 13th at 7 pm in the 19th Ward Community Association office.
