Feedback from Square Fair

John and John made story boards for schools 16 and 44 which told the stories well. Several people were unaware that 16 was closed, so the storyboards will be useful for other functions (Westside market, etc). Attendance was up for the 50^th anniversary and many people came by.

Summer Reading - Alana

Alana explained that she is an urban fellow working on summer reading. She described a productive meeting with the Arnett library staff, and a proposal to have the children produce a guide to the neighborhood. We provided feedback on people she should have involve in this project.

Volunteer recruitment/training process

Our discussion focused on the wording of our MOA with the district, and what our process should include. The major concern is how do we protect the children, and secondarily how do we protect the association from a law suit if something goes awry. Dan took the action to assemble a subcommittee to come up with a process of selection/vetting/training volunteers. Sheila Driscoll and Diane Watkins from the executive committee volunteered to participate. Please provide any input to Dan.

Volunteer to chair spelling bee

Old Business

John B attended the meeting of the Construction board. They are still waiting for information from the district before asking for RFP’s for the architectural designs. They estimated that they were 6 months behind.

New Business

John L set up a meeting with Barbara Goldhammer and Adele Bovard to discuss the planning for student placement at 16 and 44. The meeting is Tuesday, June 16 in room 1-N108 at central office

Next Meeting Wednesday, July 8^th at 7 pm in the 19^th ward association office.

The 19^th Ward Schools Committee is working to restore our schools to the neighborhood anchors they once were. They need to be educational beacons that attract parents to the neighborhood and make them want to stay here! Your participation is key. We want to contact all parents in the neighborhood to invite them to participate in the planning and revitalization of our schools

At Square Fair this June 6^th 2015, part of School 16 will be open to display the facility studies that have been done in preparation for renovation planning. Visitors can ask questions and sign up for planning sessions. We hope you will be able to join us at School 16 on the west end of Aberdeen Square and take part in our school revival.
