Minutes of the October 12th, 2016 meeting of
The 19th Ward Community Association Schools Committee
Attendees: John Boutet, John Laing, Jay Ross, Dan Ross
August minutes Approved with one change of date
Spelling Bee
No one has volunteered to chair so we will keep it with our committee for now.
We reviewed the projected expenses for the year. Decisions on Scripp’s (one school to sign up $145), gift cards (all participants in the Spelling Bee Event at U of R will receive $20, for a total spend of $960). We included a grant of $1000 to cover any contingencies. The budget will be sent to the Community Foundation and attached to these minutes.
School 16 status
Carla Roberts is the new principal. There is a series of meetings with the architect (Steve Rebholz) to come to a design in January that can be used to obtain bids on the construction. Air conditioning is not in the budget at this time, but the team is working on it.
School 44 status
School 44 will host the listening tour stop of the superintendent on October 24th at 6:30.
School 29 status
The new principal is Joe Baldino.
School 10 status
Principal is Camaron Clyburn
Old/New Business
An annual report is due for convention. I was to draft a report and circulate it for review. Topics include school 16 renovation, spelling bee, book giveaway, task force participation, school 44 activities, school volunteers, and presence at square fair and convention.
The response to our petition was disappointing, with 39 only signatures.
Next Meeting
Wednesday, November 9th at 7 pm in the 19th Ward Community Association office.
