New Member

We welcomed Sabrina LaMar as an addition to the committee. Most recently she ran for school board and now is happy to have her weekends and evenings back. She is the executive director of Rise Up Rochester which provides support for families of homicide victims

Discussion of plans for the year

It is our desire that when school 16 returns to Post Ave it becomes a neighborhood, community school. This will involve communicating to parents in the cachment area that the school is meant for them and they should be prepared to have it as their first choice for placement of their children. In order to have appropriate timing of the information we need to have assurance that the opening in September of 2018 is on schedule. I was to contact Mike Schmitt for his assessment of the schedule. We have drawings of the planned renovation and will show these at neighborhood meetings ( 19^th ward convention, Wilson high school holiday happening,…)

We should work with the district to have an event at the school in the February time frame to show parents the plans and explain the neighborhood school concept. There wouldn’t be the need to have the entire building open but just one are ( eg library, gym or cafeteria ) to give folks a sense of what’s coming.

Old/New Business

Jay brought information on this years listening tour of the superintendent. Below is a list of the first announced public community engagement sessions that the RCSD Superintendent and her key staff are conducting throughout the community in October and November. A number of other events are to be subsequently added to this list. We hope that as many of us as possible can attend one or more of these sessions and be prepared to speak on behalf of our concerns. The Superintendent has billed these as community sessions designed to hear what the community is saying they want affecting city students and schools, so this is a prime opportunity for us to get our message on the record. The superintendent is committed to present a report to her Board in December on the Path Forward, based on what she is hearing in these sessions, so let's make sure she hears our message loud and clear.
