Guests: Alison Skvarla, Tom Cole

Approval of Minutes from April Meeting

Approved

Vision Quest Proposal (Alison Skvarla, Tom Cole)

Alison provided an overview of the Vision Quest Proposal for an elementary school. Key elements include

  • smaller classrooms

  • three classes per grade – one advanced, one mainstream and one for children with more needs

  • teacher led, decisions made by committees of teachers, parents and communities

  • focus on arts (“ elementary SOTA”)

  • student application process to include interviews

  • process for teacher selection

  • agreement with RIT for STEM

Alison and Tom answered questions but they didn’t have any data on the effectiveness of this approach. Dan took the action item to locate any information on the results of this approach and we would continue our discussion at our June meeting.

School 16 renovations

We have enough information from our previous survey that it isn’t necessary to repeat the survey, but we need to be ready to organize meetings to provide community input.

New Business

We need to have a presence at the Westside market throughout the summer.
