The Meeting convened at 7:10 pm.
Present: John Boutet, MaryDan Cooper, John Laing, Tamara Leigh, Dan Ross
The objective of this meeting was to plan for a School 10 rally.
Tamara has a child at School 10 and we asked a lot of questions.
School 10 is currently a citywide draw school. We discussed if the Expeditionary Learning and neighborhood school model can coexist and believe the answer is yes. The percentage of students who attend from the 19th Ward may grow depending on the bussing policy the District develops. If the RCSD get State approval for short distance bussing, more parents may opt for sending their children to their local school.
We discussed the benefit of having John Curran put together a list of historical sites in the neighborhood.
School 10 has extended school day approval.
Busing from Y daycare to 10 is happening. Tanara
The19th Ward Spelling Bee is Sat at 12:15pm at Hubble Auditorium at The U of R. The 19WCA gets $2000 from the Rochester Community foundation to organize the program.
Is the 15th too short a notice for the Rally? Many thought yes but we left it open for a day or two while we did a reality check. (We ended deciding on delaying to April 23rd the next day.)
Tamara will start social media blitz for rally. She will try to get green light from principal, Camaron Clyburn, to contact parents through the school.
Sarah Yaworsky is working on a flyer. John Boutet will publicize the rally on Location19.
MaryDan indicated the 19WCA Executive Committee talked about reactivating the Schools Committee. Lashay will talk to Sarah to get write up for the Schools Committee's vision statement.
The meeting adjourned at 8:45pm.
