Boulder update

Boulder Coffee is in the process of moving across Genesee Street into the Brooks Landing Business Center. As soon as we have a date for their re-opening, I will post it here and on Facebook.

They have spent the last several days moving tables, booths and equipment - now it all needs to be set in place and equipment needs to be installed.

Again - as soon as a date is available, it will be posted!

I am wondering what the CDC can do to help alleviate the "the extensive bureaucracy that has not only resulted in delays in opening but continuous added costs associated with changes in requirements that are added in after plans are submitted and approved". This has to be a real turn off to prospective tenants. WHO is causing the aforementioned?

When we become aware of a problem, we intercede on behalf of the business owner if at all possible. There are many approvals, permits and inspections required for some projects, and it isn't easy (or always possible) to expedite some of these requirements. New construction is different from putting a business into an existing storefront......sometimes its simpler, but with the business center and multiple tenants, it can become more cumbersome.

We ARE working on these issues - but I can't always disclose the entire situation, and sometimes don't have all the information needed to give an accurate or complete report. I will do my best to both help the businesses and communicate with residents!

This is a good idea Eleanor. It has been explained to me that a part of the problem is that development projects are approved in different phases by different City departments at different times. In other words, our left hand does not know what our right hand is doing. Still you can be sure that big developers do know what’s going on.

The City has too much red tape for it to work for 'regular' folks. The Council is the legislative body of City Government that should demand a more streamlined process for owning a business in the City and managing development. It also must provide the necessary checks and balances to help ensure a fair balance between helping our small business owners and helping rich investors who get tax breaks, grants and additional considerations. In the latest “revitalization”, we still seem to end up with new buildings and new facades with empty business.

I also agree that there is too much happening that the public is not privy to. We have a right to hear the arguments before we hear about the decision. Once we find out what the nuances and hidden issues are we need to remove them. So, yeah, let's post what the roadblocks are.
