MINUTES – HOUSING COMMITTEE – 9/22/11 – 7:00

Meeting began at 7:03
14 items on agenda
11 people attended

We covered all 14 items and found that we had folks with experience in many areas.  Many items were long range and some were items we are working on.

A sign-up sheet was available for each item and we found most support for items 1 and 3.
1 – curb appeal – gutters down, steps, paint, boarded up, etc.  Nine people were in support of working on this
3 – toters misplaced, parking on lawns, unlicensed vehicles, trash and debris – Three people were interested in working on this

Some of the other items will be looked into by some individuals.  Some of the other items were
  • Positive reports in support of schools – help to dispel rumors to slow exiting at school age, and a reason to settle in the neighborhood
  • Working on an ‘Angie’s List’ of contractors
  • Looking into starting 10-house blocks with a trained teenager available to move totes, rake leaves, remove snow, etc.  This could save a young person from the street and they could grow up to be your best neighbor.

A one hour meeting is set for Wednesday, 9/28 at 1:00, 19th Ward Office, 216 Thurston Road.   This meeting is specifically planned to get projects underway

A monthly meeting will be held at the 19th Ward Office, 216 Thurston, on the 4th Thursday at 7:00

Meeting adjourned at 8:36
