Vote in the poll to nominate a SW Rochester business for the next C...

Action needed! The Genesee Center for the Arts & Education is running a poll to choose a location for the next City Wide Cash Mob.  They are the group that organized the first two Cash Mob's in Rochester. They are trying to do on a City Wide level what we did on a neighborhood level.  That also means that they can have 100s or people show up for a cash mob instead of a 100.  So we need people to complete thier poll and promote or vote for a neighborhood business.

There first two Cash mobs where in the Southwedge (Thread) and East Avenue (Record Archive).  Their base tends to be the whiter areas of the City (Southeast Section) of the city.  So unless we have a strong presence on thier poll, that's where the next one will be.

So lets have people log in and nominate a local business.  I have nominated Menezes, as on the 19th ward and Southwest Rochester Good things are happening here page, they were are winner in our nominate a business. People could also nominate Hunts again. We need Southwest Rochester residents to log in an vote.

We are already behind in the voting, so get busy.

Where do we go to vote?

Thalia,

The first sentence of Dan's post is a link to the Facebook page where you can vote.  Something is behaving a little strangely however.  I tested the link because I wanted to make sure I knew what I was talking about before answering you.  I had several tabs open at the time and one included a Facebook page, so I was logged-in to Facebook.  When I clicked the link above I was taken to a Facebook page that showed me 6 options with the one at the top of the list being Menezes Pizza with the fewest votes (4) as shown in this image:

I then logged out and tried clicking Dan's link again to see if I could see the page and get the choices again without being logged in.  I saw the page with 5 choices this time and Menezes Pizza was not on the list.  I tried clicking one of the 5 to see if it would take my vote and I was taken to a log-in page.  When I had logged-in and clicked the link again to get to the voting page, the 6 options which included Menezes showed again and the test vote I had done while not logged-in had not registered.

Conclusion:

  • You have to have a Facebook account and be logged-in to vote.
  • You can see a version of the voting even if you don't have a Facebook account but not all options may show.
  • Of the ones that showed w/o being logged into Facebook (The lower five) the only one that I was familiar with was Rehouse Architectural Salvage. It may be that a minimum number of votes are needed for the an option to show or that it only shows the top five to someone not logged in.  Mercury Posters has 22 votes at the time of the image shown above.
  • All of those lower 5 are on the east side and as I look through the pictures of those who voted for them, I hardly recognize anyone.  It does not look like a SW Quadrant crowd.   On the other hand I know all four of the folks who voted for Menezes Pizza.
  • Given that the poll was set-up by Genesee Center for the Arts & Education, 713 Monroe Avenue on their Facebook page, this greatly biases the early results to the tastes of the folks on the east side and suburbs who are involved with the Genesee Center.
  • If you like Menezes, vote for them and LET YOUR FRIENDS KNOW!
  • If you want to promote some other local business you can + Add and answer... at the bottom of the list to vote for them and LET YOUR FRIENDS KNOW!.
  • If you are not a Facebook member, join and participate in this Cash Mob Competition
  • Getting SW Quadrant businesses on the list and having one win would be a good thing for ALL businesses on the west side.
  • Note that you can vote for more than one business... preferably more than one west side business.
  • Note that Rehouse has 161 votes as of the image above.  Location19 has 430 members.  We can turn the poll upside down if we all vote and notify our friends via email, Location19 and Facebook.
  • If you drag this link into and email the persons you send it to can read this discussion:  Action Needed to vote on the next City wide Cash Mob.

Very nicely said John. I have had discussions with the organizers that while it is great that they want to do this on a City Wide basis, it needs to be more diverse then just the South East part of the City. Getting everyone here to vote would help a lot to get some attention to the South West part of the City.

Sorry, I will not use Facebook.
