South West Common Council Meeting

SW Community and FIS Youth Engagement Report for September

Brown Street Bodaga Mini Clean Sweep
(Neighborhood United)
Henry Talbert (store owner), John Curran, Florence Clemmons, Bill Washington, and neighbors cleaned lots surrounding 810 Brown St. Bill encouraged neighbors to attend the next Neighborhood United Block Club meeting; A big thanks goes out to: The City of Rochester Environmental Services, David Hawkes, SW Neighborhood Service Center, and John Curran for his financial support, engaging the youth and for sharing the history of Bulls Head.

SW Neighborhood Community Uplift - Covered Reynolds St., and Tremont St.; 21 participated; Minimal violations; 11 good neighbor door hangers. Neighbors expressed how pleased they were to see the City and service providers out-and-about.


Youth Initiative

SW FIS Area - YEN (Youth Engagement Network):

  • Book Bag Give-Away at Flint St. Community Center was a success. Partners were on hand to help address issues / concerns students had in order for a smooth transition back to school. Genesis the Alpha (International Association of Black Professional Fire Fighters on hand to educate families on fire education, safety prevention, and careers. Families were very pleased.
  • YEN in conjunction with Citizens Bank, and the Delta Sigma Theta handed out Book Bags to youth at the Boys and Girls Club.
  • SW Rochester Explores - Youth explored Strong Memorial Hospital Nursing Dept., and the Rochester Red Wings Organization.
  • Jefferson Ave., Seventh Day Adventist Church signed on as a YEN partner
