Is there anything specific that we can do to oppose this appeal?
Dawn Noto has a petition (I think it is at the 1872 Cafe on W. Main Street), and the Landmark Society is appealing to the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) to have it returned to the state list. Reach out to the Landmark Society, Dawn Noto, or touch base with the 19th Ward officers.
You can also send letters to the Zoning Board of Appeals, expressing opinion on retaining the historic designation, and you can speak at the hearing on 3/21.
