SouthWest Common Council
Communications Committee Minutes
Meeting Date: 02/16/12

Attendance:
John Boutet (Location19), Eleanor Coleman (SWAN), Joan Roby-Davison, Via conference call from Frontier Communications : Tarak L. Bolt (Enterprise Account Executive, East Region), Maggie Quinn (Director of Wireless Sales and Solutions)

TOPIC:
Review of Communications Committee Wi-Fi survey form and of activity on part of Frontier
NOTES:

  • Tarak L. Bolt reported that Craig, one of the persons on the Frontier team is checking in Albany for possible a funding sources for a SW Quadrant free Wi-Fi system. They had an appointment scheduled with someone in the administration that week but it got postponed because of a scheduling conflict.
  • John reviewed discussion he had with Mayor Richards about the Wi-Fi initiative at the City Hall on the Road meeting in November. The mayor thought that investigating what could be done through the schools was one possibility. We have gotten a letter acknowledging the discussion and we need to follow-up.
  • We reviewed the Wi-Fi survey form that Eleanor and John had developed at the January 19 meeting. We had started to use it at a January 28 conference at which we had gotten about 25 surveys filled out. We had not tabulated the information yet.  A spread sheet is being set up. It was decided that it would be desirable to add a check-off to determine is this is being filled out by a business or a residential application. We also wanted to ask if they would be willing to visit a free local Wi-Fi hot spot if it was close to their area.
  • Joan Roby-Davison will set up a Survey Monkey version of the survey to easily distribute to individuals who have email. John, Joan and Eleanor will also strive to reach people with paper copies of the survey to make sure we sample people who do not have email also.
  • Tarak thought that getting input from 50 businesses and 100 residential applications would be a meaningful sample on which to start basing our efforts.

FOLLOW-UP:

Obtain more survey input and tabulate the information.
Frontier will look into funding sources through Albany
John will follow-up on contact with the Mayor's office.
The next meeting will be Thursday March 15th.
