Managed Choice Policy Task Force

A special Task Force to address District policy on Managed Choice has been convened in April at the request of the Rochester City School Board. Board Member Elizabeth Hallmark is chairing the Task Force. Board Member Willa Powell also sits on the Task Force along with parents, community members and educators.

The Managed Choice Policy was first adopted in 2002 and pertains to elementary schools. Many realities such as increased poverty, zone disparities, and a growing charter movement call us to conduct a thoughtful examination of Managed Choice. The Task Force will explore the original assumptions and aims of the policy so it can recommend best strategies for future district registration, enrollment, and transportation.

A report which is being closely studied for concepts to incorporate into the policy revision is Ralph Spezio's 2012 paper which is attached. The concepts outlined in this report are what the SWCC Education Committee and 19WCA Schools Committee have been pursuing for School 16 when it is renovated and reopened on Post Avenue and what is currently being attempted at School 17.

Note that all the Managed Choice Task Force meeting materials can be retrieved on Board Docs under the public site’s meetings tab at https://www.boarddocs.com/ny/rochny/Board.nsf/Public.

Click on the above link then on the Meetings tab.

On the page that appears click on 2016 sub-tab.

Then click the May 26, 2016 (Thu) Managed Choice Task Force (All Meetings) sub-tab that appears.

Now if you select the main Agenda tab at the top of the page all the meeting we have had appear and you can find all the documents reviewed and Meeting Minutes.
