A special Task Force to address District policy on Managed Choice has been convened in April at the request of the Rochester City School Board. Board Member Elizabeth Hallmark is chairing the Task Force. Board Member Willa Powell also sits on the Task Force along with parents, community members and educators.

The Managed Choice Policy was first adopted in 2002 and pertains to elementary schools.  Many realities such as increased poverty, zone disparities, and a growing charter movement call us to conduct a thoughtful examination of Managed Choice. The Task Force will explore the original assumptions and aims of the policy so it can recommend best strategies for future district registration, enrollment, and transportation.

You can review the Managed Choice Policy in this PDF:  5153_Parent_Preference_Managed_Choice (Current Policy - Website).pdf
In 2014, at the request of Superintendent Vargas, a review of the policy was done and reported in:  Alves Rochester Report - March 2014.pdf,  with supporting data in : Copy of Alves Report Tables - March 2014.pdf

A report which is being closely studied for concepts to incorporate into the policy revision is Ralph Spezio's 2012 paper which is attached.  The concepts outlined in this report are what the SWCC Education Committee and 19WCA Schools Committee have been pursuing for School 16 when it is renovated and reopened on Post Avenue and what is currently being attempted at School 17.
