The March meeting of the 19th Ward Schools Committee is Tuesday, July 10th at 7:00 pm in the 19th Ward Community Association Office at 216 Thurston Rd.
We hope to have Julie Philipp from the D&C at this meeting. All members from the 19WCA Schools Committee and the SWCC Education Committee are welcome and we will review what the two committees have worked on for the renovation of School 16.
We have been arguing for school 16 to evolve into a community based neighborhood school. RCSD has agreed to this approach in the Path Forward proposal.
Presently however the State's 1.5 miles minimum bus ride requirement for reimbursement keeps many children from choosing their neighborhood school because parents want their kids bused. We will thoroughly discuss this issue.
We also will review barriers that prevent having a full day of teaching, and what can be done to reduce these problems. For example, what is the policy to back-fill for teacher absences, how to condense the time for testing, etc.
