Event Description

The AQE/Metro Justice Education Committee will meet this Friday February 12th, at 5:30pm to 7:00pm, at 803 West Avenue, Suite 370, Rochester, NY 14611

Budget season is in full swing in New York, help us promote the Birth to College Fund, and make sure our state legislators Stand Up For Kids! With a minimum of $2.9 Billion in new education funding, public schools in New York will not have to make further cuts to programs and be able to expand what is working.

Parents and students spoke at the Rochester City School District Board of Education on January 28 in support of positive school climate and a new code of conduct.  A draft of the proposed new code of conduct is available HERE!

The draft code was submitted to the Rochester City School District on February 4th, and it is up to us to make sure these new policies are adopted and in place as soon as possible. . With the new code of conduct: suspension will only be used as a last resort, alternatives to suspensions will be created and utilized, students needs (counseling, support services, learning disabilities, dealing with bullying) will be the first priority rather than punishment, and supportive relationships between all members of the school community will be promoted.
