Note from the Census Bureau, received at City Hall.

Dana

I 'm writing to request your assistance to ensure that the City of Rochester is a successful participant in the 2010 decennial census.

Since December 2008 the U. S. Census Bureau’s office in Buffalo has been recruiting throughout Monroe County, including in the City of Rochester, for the 2010 decennial census. Despite our efforts, the limited number of applicants we have thus far received from many areas of the City of Rochester has left us concerned that we will have not have sufficient candidates for the few hundred positions we need to fill. Our goal is to hire people to work in the neighborhoods in which they live.
The first part of the 2010 decennial census operation, Address Canvassing, starts in late April 2009. We will begin hiring and training staff for that operation in March 2009. These temporary part-time jobs pay $13.50 - $16.50/hr depending on duties. We anticipate that the jobs will last from late April - late June 2009.
We are currently conducting testing of candidates at several testing sites within and around the City of Rochester. Interested individuals can arrange to take this mandatory test by calling toll-free at 1-866-861-2010 between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Sunday. Candidates can also call directly to our Recruiting line at 716-923-9030. We also can offer a Spanish-language version of the test.
The results of this decennial census will determine the allocation of seats in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2011, and for the next decade will be used to determine the annual allocation of federal expenditures among the 50 states ($300 billion/yr), annual NY State government expenditures, and will influence the decisions of private firms on whether and where to expand business in WNY.
Attached is a fact sheet with information on the 2010 Census. We can also provide your offices with additional promotional flyers and posters similar to those at the following website.

More information is available at the following Census 2010 website: http://www.census.gov/2010censusjobs/index.php
Anything you can do to encourage residents of Rochester to call and apply for a job will be appreciated. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

I have done this in the past and it is a good -paying part-time job, with benefits to the community.
