The next meeting of the FR=EE RACE and Education group is June 25, 2014 from 7 to 9pm, at Action for a Better Community, 550 East Main St.
In case you have not seen the news on de facto segregation in schools lately, NY State now has the most racially segregated schools in the country. In NY State, Rochester tops the list. This has resulted in a concentration of poverty in our City schools and contributed to their poor performance.
We have to turn our City schools around and facing and understanding all the issues involved is a must. Facing Race, Embracing Equity (FR=EE) has workgroups studying ways of reducing the racial divides that hurt many aspects of our community such as: Housing, Health Disparities, Jobs and Economic Opportunity, Juvenile and Criminal Justice, and Education. The group addressing education is the one meeting June 25th.
Let's pull together and solve our problems.
