Event Description

SHERPA Alert

Become a SHERPA (Sunday Helper Expediting Rapids (Cemetery) Preservation Activities) by volunteering at Rapids Cemetery (90 Congress Avenue two blocks south of Brooks Avenue off Genesee Street) this Sunday from 1:00pm - 3:00pm. Sherpas, in general, carry the weight for preparation activities.

This is a fitting tribute on Memorial Day weekend. Visit the grave sites of local veterans who served in the War of Independence, War of 1812, Civil War and the Spanish American War buried at Rapids Cemetery.

There WILL be a special Memorial Day (Monday) volunteer effort from 1 - 3pm in addition to Sunday's regular SHERPA activity.

The main activities will involve moving wood piles, spreading topsoil, tending the Meditation Garden and transplanting existing wildflowers and plants. Tools, gloves and refreshments provided. Check out our recent discoveries.

This event is part of the on-going "second and fourth Sundays" (aka "SHERPA 2&4") volunteerism opportunities held at Rapids Cemetery through autumn. Bring flowers and decorative bushes for planting at the cemetery. Mark your calendars.
