Event Description

The Healthi Kids Coalition, Rochester Public Library, Shawn Dunwoody and the City of Rochester will be hosting a community paint day on Saturday, May 27, 2017. The event will bring together kids and community members to paint an interactive Story Walk outside the walls of Phillis Wheatley Community Library (see rendering below).

The story walk embraces local history and diversity and activates the space in front of Phillis Wheatley Library. The project will provide kids and families in the neighborhood with a unique opportunity to play, promote community building, public beautification, and celebrate neighborhood history. Working with author Lisa Johnson from Writers and Books, and artist Shawn Dunwoody, children participated in a library program over the last few weeks to write the first story and create the design for the project. The story walk is the product of their vision and design.

Join the neighborhood as we come together to paint the story walk to ensure all kids in the neighborhood have access to playful spaces to play, literacy and fun!

When: Saturday May 27, 2017

Where: Phillis Wheatley Library

33 Samuel McCree Way

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
