t's time to take a stand against violence in our hometown. Friday (4/20/12), there will be an assembly at the Liberty Pole on East Main Street at 4:00 pm to promote peace, advocate for youth empowerment, and raise awareness of violence in Rochester.
You may or may... not be aware of the recent tragedy to hit the Rochester community: the death of Lawrence Richardson. Lawrence was a youth organizer and mentor at the Teen Empowerment Center in Rochester, and his death has made headlines this week. He had a positive impact on many people’s lives and inspired people to fight for community improvement. A disaster of this magnitude cannot be swept aside. Lawrence’s approach to end violence was to prevent its occurrence in Rochester’s youth. He understood the root of the problem and mentored young people towards a life of positive choices and opportunity. His investment in the young people of Rochester should not be an effort wasted. It is up to the community to stand up, continue his legacy, and stop the violence today.
We want to ensure that Lawrence’s pursuit to prevent violence in Rochester is a priority to both citizens and community leaders. It is our hope that you will join us in a peaceful assembly to keep his dream alive.
Feel free to bring your personal signs to share your stories.
This rally is not only in memory of Lawrence Richardson, but of all victims of violence in the Rochester community.
Speakers at the event will be updated as confirmations are received.
