The criminalization of young people is jeopardizing their future, their family's future, and their community's future. Hundreds of students are arrested and thousands more suspended every year in the Rochester City School District for nonviolent incidents.
To create lasting change the community has to be a part of the solution. We must come together to talk about the policies and programs we need in schools to keep kids out of the school-to-prison pipeline. Teen Empowerment, Metro Justice, and the Alliance for Quality Education are hosting a community forum on school climate this Thursday, June 11, at 5:30pm. The forum will take place at 1 Favor St., in Rochester, and will include dinner and an ice cream social afterwards.
This is a chance to get involved. This is a chance to talk deeply about ending the school-to-prison pipeline and create a positive vision for our public schools. Be a part of the solution by having your voice heard. When the community stands up, everyone listens.
