Superintendent of Schools Bolgen Vargas will conduct his first ‘Neighbor Night’ on Monday, November 5.

Since his appointment as interim in May, 2011, Dr. Vargas has made a concerted effort to reach out to parents and the community to gather feedback. The ‘Neighbor Night’ event is an expansion of that effort and reinforces the District’s focus on communication. The Nov. 5 event is geared toward the south zone, including the southeast and southwest quadrants of the City. Additional events will be conducted in the other zones.

‘Neighbor Night’ will mimic the format of Dr. Vargas’ successful ‘Coffee & Conversation’ monthly sessions with parents, which are casual, free-flow conversations. “We will answer questions, gather feedback, and hear the perspective of our parents and community,” Dr. Vargas said. “We want to listen to them about the topics that are important to them, rather than us presenting information.” Among the topics Dr. Vargas will be prepared to answer questions about is the District’s draft facilities master plan, which he will deliver to the Board of Education at its meeting this Thursday evening.
