So moving right along.  Another stabbing on Thurston Road.  Thurston Road.  I wonder what percentage of the posts here have to do with problems on Thurston Road?  I will repeat again that in the 7 years I have lived here there have been many "initiatives" to clean it up and develop it.  All but one have been abandoned.  NONE have accomplished anything as far as I can see.  It seems to me that none of them has involved all the players and until that happens there will be no success.  What is the Sector 4 CDC doing about Thurston?  It is the Sector 4 CDC, not the Brooks Landing CDC.  Just as U of R students would come over the bridge into the neighborhood if there were REASONS for them to do so, I think the very large customer base surrounding Thurston would use Thurston if there were REASONS.

I don't want this post to get 'buried' in the Boulder threads!
We are beyond needing IMMEDIATE attention to Thurston Road - we need to address and confront the extreme violence that has plagued our community - shootings, stabbings, arsons, drug dealing, fights, etc. While we're at it, let's address the litter and loitering! I know nothing about statistics but I think that we might be facing an epidemic of violence on Thurston and its surrounding areas!
It concerns and saddens me that we can generate a TON of community input, outrage, passion and time regarding a coffee shop yet it SEEMS that people don't want to publicly discuss the violence we're facing on a daily basis. In the meantime, we're experiencing home invasions, assaults, arsons and an overall increase in fear, anxiety and people quietly (and sometimes not so quietly) leaving the neighborhood!
I think loitering is one of the major issues. There is nothing good that comes from loitering. What we need are police officers that will put down their cell phones and get out of their cars, , and confront loiterers. It is not a pleasant job I know, but this is a major root cause, and a good indicator, of problems waiting to happen.

With the added bonus of having people who would talk, and maybe indicate something suspicious, as long as the officer is "right there". Let's face it, people are unlikely to call 911 for minor problems or suspicious activity, but if an officer was out of his car, and approachable, it would be much easier to report some suspicious activity. Numerous reports of the same type or of the same person, house, corner, whatever, would raise a flag and the officer could take the appropriate measures to follow up on worthy causes.
