19th Ward Community Association
Housing Committee
Day Meeting Notes for Posting
April 4, 2012
Final
The Meeting convened at 11:10am.
Present: John B, Peter E, Lee K, Toni O, June R, Donna S
The committee gave a letter to Mayor at Palm Sunday Breakfast but it did not cover getting the list of houses taken over or on demolition list. Stresses two houses that are to be demolished on Chili and the 47 Wellington property.
Kenwood Still needs attention. It is in district nine. Toni will give a list of Kenwood rental properties that have code violations to David and we will hold off sending letter until the NSC has had a chance to take care of those. These are mostly out of town landlords. We will also hold off on owner occupied houses.
Toni reported about visit with David Hawkes. People have complained that they put totes on their front lawn rather than tree lawn and had to be told that would get ticketed also. We have a problem in that the City can not ticked if tote is on the front end of the side of the house. Need to petition to have code changed to force putting totes is as far back as possible.
Houses are being bought sight unseen from companies that have bought tax leans. Peter wants to look into having city work with real-estate agents to market properties to local buyers. At auction you have to put $10K down and show you can do what is needed to fix property.
Corner stores: only people who don't have transportation use them and the people who have the least money pay the highest costs.
Need to table 96 Chili until we hear back from mayor.
Donna had three items:
Peter found Papa John's signs that have gone up and Donna has seen those signs up also.
Toni: How do we get to be a preservation district?
77 Garfield has hole in Roof. Roof problem at 170 Garfield. Contractor did bad job and is being taken to court.
Graffiti on Garage 631 Arnett needs to be reported.
Meeting adjourned at 12:15pm
