Accepted
School 16 status
Phone conversation later this week with Michael Schmidt.
School 44 status
The CET (Community Engagement Team) met to review progress on the receivership set of activities. One of the metrics is attendance which will be complicated since it will include the preK students.
Spelling Bee
April 9th is the date for the 7th Annual Spelling Bee. Study sessions will be held at the Arnett library Saturday mornings from 10-11. Jay will order 500 pencils with 19th ward spelling bee printed on the side. We also approved a purchase of a pencil sharpener.
The 19wca executive committee did not take our recommendation to channel the $10,000 grant to RACF for funding Spelling Bee scholarships. They will propose opportunities for additional spending to increase the number of students participating. At our next meeting we will evaluate these proposals and implement where appropriate.
Volunteer information
Ricky Frasier will hold an orientation session January 19 at school 58.
Lobbying in Albany
John B and Beverly travelled to Albany with Metro Justice folks to lobby for releasing funds to the Rochester schools and argue for short distance busing. Unfortunately David Gantt was not available but they met with his aides.
Next Meeting
Wednesday, February 20th (note change in the date) at 7 pm in the 19th Ward Community Association office.
