Volunteer recruitment/training process

Dan will update at the August meeting. There were no additional comments for him.

Summer reading and book distribution

John B reported that several boxes of books had been distributed to stores, and in addition many have been given directly to children, on the street or at West side market. There have been a large number of books distributed – estimates were 400+. John L took the action to contact St Stephen’s to distribute books to people in line at the Foodlink fresh produce truck. That will be this Wednesday (July 22) starting around 8:00 am.

There are three possibilities for LFLs which are being pursued.

Volunteer to chair spelling bee

None to date. Please feel free to ask potential candidates as a chairperson needs to be in place before the fall.

School 16 update

No update

School 44 update

The school is preparing a grant application from the state which is designed to help struggling schools. School personnel are working on it and it needs to be submitted by late July.

Old/New Business

John B. will be out of town for a while. John L will man the booth at WSM to give out books.

Next Meeting Wednesday, August 12th at 7 pm in the 19th ward association office.
