School 44 status

Movie night attracted 70-80 people to school 44. John B is working to get Cecilia Golden involved, along with members of the school board to pursue the funding opportunities. The school based planning team is working on professional development and a summer learning program. There is a meeting Saturday from 10 to 2 at the Metro Justice office at 803 West Ave . One issue being worked is the combination of an extended day and a late bus schedule which means the children are getting home late as well as being tired late in the day.

School 16 Status

No news on the renovation.

Spelling Bee

School 44 is having a kickoff for the Spelling Bee at 3 pm on Dec 1.

The 19th wca executive committee requested that we look for areas in which to spend the funds that the 19wca has been granted. We felt that we could not responsibly spend into the $10,000 grant and that grant should be returned to the RACF to be used for scholarships. We agreed to a number of incentives and will finalize at the December meeting.

Old/New Business

A number of people handed out books as well as candy on Hallowe’en and we estimated that 1000 books were treats for local children. Continue to look for opportunities to give away books as there seems to be both a large demand and supply.

We will have a table at convention for showing our status.

Next Meeting Wednesday, December 9th at 7 pm in the 19th Ward Community Association office.
