I think it would be great to have a set of four burglary prevention weekends. The idea would be to set aside an hour on each of 4 preceding Saturdays (1-2) as an example, where everyone would work on one of the ideas in the Burglary handout and tie it in with our local merchants and agencies. So the first week could be securing windows. Individuals could preorder supplies at Hunts. Hunts could do a workshop at Noon. The RPD could provide guidance, and everyone would all go back to their street and install better window locks together. Block clubs could help out. Neighbors could help neighbors for an hour and kids could sell lemonade at lemonade stands. Anyone interested in helping set this up?
The 19th ward or Sector 4 or another group could take the lead on this. There are probably some block grants or other grants that could be sought to help out with the event. The City would be good to get involved as well are our city council people. This could happen this Fall, or sooner. If grants were sought we might also be able to install trophy cameras on other streets. We might ask home security companies to come and do presentations or set up booths (and donate to support the efforts).
We could also have the Fire Department get involved and provide information on smoke alarms and CO2 detectors.
