A Possible Solution - Police on Foot - Out of the car

I think loitering is one of the major issues. There is nothing good that comes from loitering. What we need are police officers that will put down their cell phones and get out of their cars, , and confront loiterers. It is not a pleasant job I know, but this is a major root cause, and a good indicator, of problems waiting to happen.

With the added bonus of having people who would talk, and maybe indicate something suspicious, as long as the officer is "right there". Let's face it, people are unlikely to call 911 for minor problems or suspicious activity, but if an officer was out of his car, and approachable, it would be much easier to report some suspicious activity. Numerous reports of the same type or of the same person, house, corner, whatever, would raise a flag and the officer could take the appropriate measures to follow up on worthy causes.

Even the added presence of the Mounted Patrol of a few years ago on our main arteries was helpful. So much so that I even began carrying horse treats in my car! They were a welcomed sight.
So true Sheri. The police were accused of harassment even by defense attorneys! Accusations by defendants arrested during the Thurston Zoo dismantling were directed at the police. And your right, it was the defendants, their relatives, etc. Because more than once, I/we would hear relatives conversing during court recessions how the defendant was 'turning his life around' and how the police were racists.......Same was true when Plymouth Rock was partially dismantled and the main players received substantial prison sentences. Court Watch was challenged by defense attorneys on several occasions because of our strongly written Impact Letters to which Mike Green personally went to bat for us. The intimidations and fear factors are the primary defense tactics of criminals.
Well, they can accuse all they want, but it has to be proven in court. Of course they are going to grasp at straws and try to get charges thrown out. But to give up because of some accusations is not the answer.
