Location19 changes its focus to the SouthWest Quadrant

When Location19 was started just two and a half years ago, its focus was the 19th Ward area.   Residency, however, was never a requirement and many valuable members live outside the 19th Ward.  The recent flurry of activity on this site has made it increasingly obvious that all the neighborhoods in the SouthWest Quadrant interact in many ways, and that it really would benefit us all to focus Location19 on the whole quadrant so we better understand how to work together for our common good.

We announced the start of this change in a message to all Location19 members on October 27th.  This past weekend you may have noticed our logo starting to reflect that change to "SW".  A lot of work is going on behind the scenes to accommodate this change in focus.  It goes far beyond just changing the logo and redefining the geographical area we are trying to serve.  Until now Location19 has operated without active participation of neighborhood organizations.  It was focused on individuals talking to each other about things they were interested in.  Now, with this changeover, we are actively trying to have existing neighborhood groups take an active role on this site.  You have probably noticed the formation of new Location19 Groups such as SW Common Council (SWCC)SWAN Grow GreenSW Community Roundtable , Sector 4 CDC, and the 19th Ward Community Asso… .  The hope is these organizations, and others that will join in the future, will post information within their Groups such as meeting minutes and reports that will permit all users of Location19 to get familiar with what they do and how they interact with each other for our common betterment.  The objective is to promote transparency and understanding of how groups function in the SouthWest Quadrant.

The hope is we can accomplish this without drowning out the voices and interactions among the many individuals and small groups that have been the backbone of this network from its inception.

As we proceed, please be sure to voice your thoughts on the above goals and give us feedback on how things are going.
