The first Luminary evening planning meeting was held today at Boulder Coffee. We had a great turn out for our first meeting. Plans are beginning to emerge for a great event. This will be the 5th annual Luminary Evening. Last year we grew the event both in the number of streets/houses participating, and by making it a two day event. We moved from a Luminary Evening to a Luminary Event. We are tentatively looking at growing the event again this year. With the stores closing and stores moving in the neighborhood, with daylight shootings on our main streets, this isn't a time for the status quo, or to settle back in our warm houses. Instead it is a time to get out there and connect with our neighbors and let everyone know what a great neighborhood and neighborhoods we have in the Southwest. We will be having exciting things happen come January, and the Luminary Events actually begin with the planning/community building that goes on to make it all happen.

So keep your ears open and start stocking up on hot chocolate.

I'm on board Dan! Just have class on Wednesday nights for another month. Then most of my week nights are open. -Shawn
I knew you would be. Thanks Shawn. I know we had talked a long time ago, about Starbucks partnership program. Any chance of recalling how that program worked.
It use to me called "Make your Mark" and a store would enlist it's partners (employees) to volunteer to help out local groups. As part of the volunteering, Starbucks would donate $10(?) an hour to the organization, for each employee that volunteered. It was a great thing. But with the way they have cut back, I don't know if they do it anymore.

Ask Lynn, the manager at Mt Hope if your in there, and I'll ask Jackie out at Westgate about it. If they still do the program, maybe we could get both stores to have their partners volunteer. I'm thinking with making the luminaries. If they don't have the Make your Mark program, I know Lynn and Jackie would probably let us set up in their stores to promote the event. Maybe even have a day where we make the luminaries right in the store. Could be fun!
