Nuisance Points - Public Safety Com. Meeting

I am hoping someone who attended the 19th Ward Community Association's Public Safety Committe meeting last night, Wed. 4/24/13, can post a summary of their notes on what they heard. The community has long been waiting to hear how nuisance points are assigned.

The people on the Public Safety Committee apparently do not feel a need to post any minutes online, as do all other groups I look at on Location19. Why is that? This is a group that receives public funding as their only source. Why is there no public posting of any of the Public Safety committee meetings? Would not this be one of the most important of the community interest?

I don't get it. This should be posted monthly, so all can see. Like all other community group minutes on L19, such as SouthWest Community Council, etc. etc.
What is up with this?

Mark, I share your frustration with the lack of minutes and timely information from this committee. I've raised the question and concern several times on the 19th ward "crime alert" facebook page - the general response has been something to the effect of "come to the meeting and take minutes for us". As is true for many other residents of the community, the meeting is held on an evening that I am, generally, unable to attend. When I have been able to attend, it's not been particularly clear as to the purpose of the meeting and/or agenda. While I have provided my email address at least 10 times I've never received an email about the meeting or a follow up in terms of minutes, discussions, etc. My overall conclusion is that the "Public Safety Committee" (under the 19th Ward Community Association) is not really a committee. If it was, agendas would be created, minutes produced, etc.

In terms of nuisance points, I hope someone will share what was learned in the meeting! Last night, there was VERY loud noise/music (?) coming from Thurston Road - I could hear it on my back deck 2 blocks away!

Maybe you are right. What has this committee accomplished over the years it has been in existence? Let us see some reporting. What are the next three steps it wishes to accompish? If a committee, what are they working on? If they cannot even report to the community, maybe they should disband, as they seem to have no purpose. If they do, perhaps they could tell us what it is.

"The Executive Board is working on creating ground rules and structure for all 19WCA committees." A quote from 3/25/13. This will be a welcome addition, especially concerning Public Safety. Perhaps let us know what these may be when possible? Or where and when we may find a link to such on their website? Thanks. Oh... would anyone else like to see notes or minutes?

I just read Update19 and did not see any discussion related to the Public Safety Committee.... I did see that there was discussion of revitalizing the School's Committee - something that John Boutet and others have taken on for the past year plus.

Still waiting to see notes from the 4/24 meeting. Apparently the Public Safety committee does not feel the public has any right to know! And this has been a topic of long discussion, going back about half a year or more. When there were discussions on this website, we were told "there will be a meeting about this." No answers then, none now. Are they so lazy someone could not even make time to post a few notes? I guess it does not really matter. Nobody else said they wanted to see minutes or notes from the meeting.

OK, so we have had 158 views on this already. I talked with the 19th WCA and see no reason notes cannot be posted on this. They can be right now! This was a public meeting, any observer can post notes, what is the holdup? I have talked with two community groups over the past two days who have wanted to see the comments on this meeting since last January, and we are waiting. Notes were taken on the night of the meeting. They were available for posting the next day. If someone could clarify what the holdup is, we would all appreciate it. Do we have to beg? We already have. This is so ridiculous. Oh, don't hold your breath. No big news, so boring. Not even worth the time of day, just basically a link to City Code. The comment from 19th WCA is we will publish guidelines for committees. Yes, good. My suggestion is the Public Safety Committee ought to start work on the Mayor's grant for neighborhood associations to start a competitive bid for grants for their ideas on solutions or stop-gap for local crime and violence in their neighborhoods. I visited PLEX representatives today, and urged them to submit their bid, so we can all help in local solutions. Hey, folks, competitive bid! What is our suggestion?

I find this a non-discussion, another example of the City hiding under some Code. You can read it. What I wanted to see was what it meant to us.

I find this kind of public discussion meaningless, and hope the City can do better. We have finally seen some notes posted, and thank you. Perhaps online discussion is not the best place and we need more people to join the Public Safety Committee of the 19th WCA. Call the office if you wish to join.
