The South West Common Council (SWCC) Education Committee, the 19th Ward Community Association (19WCA) Schools Committee, and the Arnett Branch Library are delighted to host the first School 16 Renovation Review and Discussion with the Rochester City School District (RCSD) and SWBR Architects.
Day/Date: Wednesday, August 24, 2016
Time: 6:30pm
Place: Arnett Branch Library, 310 Arnett Blvd., corner Warwick Ave.
After four long years, design work is finally starting for the School 16 building on Post Avenue! Come and be part of the first review of the plans and add your voice to the discussion. Please make certain that parents and teachers of students who now attend School 16 at the Freddy Thomas campus as well as all parents of pre-K through 6th grade students in the 19th Ward are aware of this important meeting. Please help spread the word.
The event will begin at 6:30pm at the Arnett Library conference room with a presentation by Steve Rebholz of SWBR Architects and Michael Schmidt, Chief of Operations at the RCSD. The presentation will be followed with a round-table discussion of the project and of the vision we share for the return of School 16 to the heart of the 19th Ward.
At this meeting you will also meet people who will be on the School 16 Building Advisory Committee from the neighborhood and the school so you know who to contact if you have questions and suggestions during the design phase. You can leave your contact information with them for future events.
As School 16 returns to the 19th Ward, our over-arching goal is to see it morph back to a neighborhood school. It is critical that rebuilding the physical plant is done in a way that creates a year-round resource, encouraging community participation and addressing community needs. How the transformation of School 16 goes will influence the entire 19th Ward. We all need to be aware of what is going on and help guide the process.
If you can't come but want to be kept up to date on development you can use the reply function below or email me at jboutet@frontiernet.net. If you can come and want to comment on what you heard, you are also welcome to reply below.
We look forward to seeing you on August 24th.
John
P.S.: Thank you to everyone who has been working with us during the past 4 years. It has been a long road getting to this point. The 4 years of work of the SWCC Education Committee and the 19WCA Schools Committee are documented in the SW Education Forum group on Location19.org. The pages with the SWCC Education Committee Minutes Index and the 19WCA Schools Committee Minutes Index provide a chronological listing of minutes from our meetings.
