Flint Street Community Center Fall, Winter, Spring Schedule The Flint Street Center has an excellent relationship with the adjacent School #19, including a parenting class, as well as shared use of the gymnasium, auditorium and library.

Annie will be meeting with Pat Jackson of S.W.A.N. next week to discuss collaborative activities. Among programs she would like to see re-invigorated is the S.W.A.N. Band, using the #19 School music room.

The Flint Street Center will hold an open house on November 14 and a Thanksgiving dinner on November 15.

  1. Review of Election results and impact on Education Committee effort

Since the School Board membership has not changed as a result of yesterday's election, we expect no major changes in our working relationship with the Board. We need to see what changes come from the Mayor's office, such as the impact on Community Centers.

  1. Walk in Items Items primarily discussed were:

  • What can be done to encourage parent involvement. Education through this committees activities.

  • How community centers such as Flint Street get parents involved.

  • Ways to get more involvement from School Board members and District staff. Be more diligent at sending invitation to our Education Committee meetings and attend RCSD meetings.

  • Need to publicize the open houses Thursday Nov. 14th at the Flint Street and Adams Street Community Centers. The City is looking for input and we should voice the need for more centers of this type adjoining schools.

  • A YouTube video of this discussion can be seen at: http://youtu.be/nxKsidUKmd4

The meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm.
