Thursday- August 22nd

RocRead Day at the Rochester Red Wings  - Every city school student who voluntarily reads a book and brings an adult to the August 22nd game against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs who brings a completed RocRead form will receive a free book from the Rochester Educational Foundation, along with two free tickets to the game.

8:30 AM – 3 PM – Rochester Employment Training and Career Fair – workshops related to employment training. Topics will include effective cover letters and resumes, finding jobs and internships, applying and testing for civil service jobs, interview techniques and strategies, using the internet to search for job openings and preparing for a career fair – Staybridge Suites

2:00 – 3:00 PM - Board Gaming Time - Arnett Library

4:30 PM – City Council Work Session – City Hall Room 208 A

6 PM – Father’s Heart Ministry Food give away – Brown and Main

6:30 – 8:30 PM – This Life (live music) - 1872 Café

6:30 – 9:30 PM – King: A filmed record…from Montgomery to Memphis – Gandhi House.

 

Friday – August 23rd

9 AM – 4 PM - Rochester Employment Training and Career Fair – attendance at meeting on August 22nd required – Staybridge Suites

9 AM – A Call to Women of Color Social Gathering – Genesee Valley Park - Roundhouse

11:00 AM – 7 PM – Jefferson Ave. Business Association Extravaganza 2013 – Jefferson Ave between Cady St. and Tremont St. – featuring Nate Rawls & S.W.A.N Band., Stimulus, True Soul, ROC BOTTOM Poetry Collective, Deborah Cox & Friends, The Network Steppers, Charlie Wells & Voices of clouds, The new gospell times, Futcha Steele, The New Image Band, the Finest Steppers, and more.  Food Vendors, Health Providers, Rec on Wheels, Arts and Crafts, Soul Food, and more. – Jefferson Ave between Cady St. and Tremont St.

Noon – 3 PM – Literacy Navigator is at the Arnett Library to help with paperwork, health forms, school forms, job and housing applications, understanding your bills, and finding community resources.

If you want to make a change in SW Rochester, one of the most important things you can do is vote.  This page is not about promoting any specific candidates but it heavily promotes voting.  The more registered voters in SW Rochester and the more people actually vote, the more attention we get from our local, state, and national leaders and political parties.

The Primary Election is Tuesday, September 10th. Polls open from Noon to 9 PM.

The General Election is Tuesday, November 5th.  Polls open from 6 AM to 9 PM

In SW Rochester, we will be voting for:

County Legislature - Districts 17 & 19

Mayor of the City of Rochester

2 City Court Judges

5 At large City Council Members

3 Members of the City School Board
