Housing Committee, 19th Ward Community Association

Meeting Minutes, April 24, 2014

Present:  Deb Leary (Chair), Mark Sweetland, Donna Sarnacki, John DeMott, Kathy O’Neill.

First meeting since our new goals and objectives were approved by Delegates Council.  The goals and objectives were reviewed along with 19th WCA Committee Member Guidelines.  Note-taking by members for minutes submission will rotate among members, and will be approved by the Committee at the following meeting. Next meeting will be Wed. May 21 at 11 AM, Association front room.

Deb reported on various meetings she has had with David Hawkes, NSC, and Sharon Conheady, formerly with Lyell Ave. NSC.  David Hawkes said that he would send a rep to our next meeting, per LaShay.

We discussed past work of the Housing Committee. There is still a $50 Grant-Writing class from Maclurg Vivian available to the group.  Donna shared history and past letters to homeowners.

Deb also attended a meeting of neighborhood stakeholders called by Adam McFadden.  Reps were there from South Wedge and Upper Mt. Hope neighborhoods where they are also dealing with illegal conversions by some landlords, and many violations of zoning codes, such as front-yard parking and paving over front and back yards for parking.

Assignments:

All - collect most horrendous addresses.  Photo these or Deb will.  John suggested that we base choices on severity and visibility.  Genesee St., Chili Ave, and Thurston get most traffic.

Deb – have Jackie send a request to Delegates for nominations of bad properties, and ask her if there are any that generate lots of complaints to the Office.

For future follow-up:

Find out about getting contact information for distant owners if their property has an “emergency”.
