Housing Committee Minutes – January 8, 2015
Present: Bruce Wilder, NSC, Deb Leary, John DeMott, JoAnn Demott, Kathy O’Neill, Donna Sarnacki, and Scott Beck
Minutes of December 11, 2014 were approved.
New member, Scott Beck, was welcomed by the Committee. Scott is a landlord and owner of Rochester Student Housing. He owns multiple properties in the 19th Ward, and rents to 100 students.
Property Reports – Bruce Wilder
19 Genesee Pk. Blvd. – case closed. C of O approved. Closure of porch was to keep heat in. Take this one off our list.
81-89 Ravenwood Ave. – landlord says he will take down porch work done without permit. NSC will revisit in the Spring.
255 Sawyer St. – no action. NSC can put on demolition list
54 Weldon St. – landlord has gotten permission to use finished 3rd floor as a “computer room”. Case closed. Take this one off our list. Kathy will contact Weldon St. neighbors to let them know.
337 Sawyer St. – no action. Owner has applied for loan modification. John D. will investigate bank status.
1046 Genesee St. – Zoning variance has been requested for front yard parking for 4 vehicles that is already installed.
U of R Student Ambassadors – Scott Beck will contact Robin Doughty to attend our next meeting.
Gary Kirkmire visit – he has been invited to and will attend the March meeting. He will present the realities of code enforcement and how this committee might be helpful to them in this process.
Announcements –
Off Campus Housing Fair at the U of R February 12th. Scott will call to reserve a table for us to present living in the 19th Ward.
Action Items
Deb to send an email to Carla Palumbo re. proposed change to C of O procedure
247 and 257 Barton St. These are long-time vacants. Members are requested to drive by before next meeting and we will then discuss adding them to our list.
John will research bank proceedings with respect to vacant housing.
Next meeting – February 19th at the NSC Office, 11 to 12:30.
